The Delicacy of Cobweb Style Wet Felting - Naturally Beautiful Handmade Treasures!

Although I've been too tired to wet felt lately due to my pregnancy. (Okay, the truth is that I haven't wet felted in months, and it is driving me a little crazy to be this non-creative!) I'm just now starting to come out of that "I feel like a slug phase" of my pregnancy and am wanting to begin some new projects soon - hopefully very soon!

One of those wet felting projects that I want to try is cobweb style felt. For a while now, I have been admiring the beautiful delicacy of cobweb felt. It is light and lacy in nature and looks like a wonderful style for a Spring scarf or shawl. I also think that cobweb style felt has the potential for creating an intriguing art piece. I must admit that the process and nature of handmade cobweb felt do intimidate me a bit - it appears so very fragile! It will probably take me several tries to get to the consistency and look that I want, but others' results that I've seen are exquisite. Perhaps by the time that I am feeling fully myself again and energized for wet felting, I will have the patience and courage to attempt a cobweb felt project. Until then, I have been browsing the internet for inspiration. I'm in awe and admiration of my talented fellow feltmakers.

Feast your eyes on this gorgeous cobweb scarf and matching bangle by Nicola Brown of Clasheen (clasheen of Etsy). It has a wispy style and grace and drapes the model wonderfully. You can find more photos of her felted creations in her Flickr gallery. She has a wide array of works to share. You can also find out more about her and her daily happenings on her blog - it is a real fiber artist's treasure!

This lovely scarf makes me think of Spring and the smell of lilacs - it must be the splendid lavender color! The cobweb felted treasure was created by Shunklies (shunklies on Etsy). It is a beautiful blend of merino wool and linen. It looks as light as air, but has such dramatic impact as an accessory. For more photos, please visit Shunklies' Flickr gallery. There is also some yummy kettle dyed top to see too!

I admit that these two examples are very high expectations to live up to when trying to create cobweb felt for the first time, but I just had to share with you. They are both fine examples of what is possible with this style of wet felting. Until my energy is back to normal, I will continue to look at beautiful examples like these on the internet for inspiration. Eventually, I will give the process a try myself and hopefully have some photos of my creations to show you.

Fascinating Handmade Needle Felted Critters! Some New-to-Me Fiber Artists that are Talented with a Felting Needle and some Wool!

I was recently browsing flickr for needle felted wool critters when I came across a few fiber artists who are very talented with felting needles. I just wanted to share my discoveries with you. Please check out their sites, blogs, shops, etc. It is worth your time!

Nina (featherheart on Etsy) makes the most extraordinary dragons! Her other fantasy creatures and animals are also wonderfully made. The bright color combinations and structural details are really amazing. Please check out her main website as well as her flickr photos.

AusieFelts (aussiefelts on Etsy) makes the most adorable little critters! Her koala makes me want to give it a big hug. She also creates the cutest bears, bunnies, lions, cats, and more. Each animal seems to have a personality and life of its own. And, did I mention how amazingly cute they are? Please visit her blog, her website, and her flickr photos.

Finally, there's this image of a needle felted bull terrier by hel62 on flickr. I couldn't find any other links to a website or blog for it, but I just had to share it with you. It is one of the most amazingly realistic needle felted creatures that I've ever seen! I actually thought it was a real dog when I first saw it. Please look at hel62's flickr photos to see the cutie pie dog that the needle felted model is based on.

Fabulous New Traditional Feltmakers - well, they're new to me at least! Wonderful Wet Felted Creations!

In today's post, I wanted to share a few traditional feltmakers that I've come across.  I know that they are probably not new, or beginners even, because of the great quality of their work, but they are new to me.  I find their felted creations inspiring and hope that you do too.

Enchanted Earth (TheFeltElf on Etsy) has beautiful scarves.  They are very organic and natural looking - almost like a series of tree leaves.  The color combinations are also beautiful.  I think that they'd drape wonderfully on any body type.  Please visit Enchanted Earth's main website for more eye-catching photos.

Feltasy (the same name on Etsy) has a large variety of clothing and accessories to offer.  Their extraordinary hats, scarves, belts, etc., really are part felt and fantasy.  They are each unique creations that almost seem like something from a vivid dream.  I love their use of colors and shapes.  Please visit Feltasy's main website for more of their dreamy felted creations.

Jane Bo (JaneBoFelt on Etsy) also makes a variety of felted creations.  I first encountered her work through her blog.  Unfortunately for me, it is all written in Russian, but I still enjoy looking at the stunningly gorgeous photos.  The texture and color of her work are just splendid!  Please visit Jane Bo's flickr account for more examples of her truly unique felted works.

Some New Nuno Felted Scarves and Wet Felted Flowers

This is another one of those "I just had to share" moments. Last week, I made a post about dyeing silk chiffon scarves. Over the last week, I was actually able to get some felting done and made a few of those hand dyed scarves into nuno felted, or laminated, scarves using some super soft, fine quality merino wool. I also made matching wet felted flower pins to go along with the scarves. I plan to eventually list these sets in my Etsy shop so be on the lookout. I think that they'd be especially nice for holiday gifts.

If you'd like to see more photos of my new scarves and flower pins, please visit my flickr photo gallery.
